RJ Reynolds

The Campaign

Since 1923 R. J. Reynolds High School has been without an on-campus stadium to call home. As the oldest and one of the largest high schools in Forsyth County, RJR serves nearly 1800 students – of whom 30% participate on 40 athletic teams. Because it is without a stadium on or near campus, RJR’s student-athletes drive over 13,000 miles annually to get to practices and games. Those who don’t have a license to drive or a car face an immediate barrier to participation in after school sports and activities located off-campus.

R. J. Reynolds High School has shared a stadium over six miles from campus and traveled to multiple sports fields for practices and “home” games long enough. An on-campus stadium will address this long-standing inequity and provide RJR students with the same opportunities as students in the rest of the county and state.

With support from RJR alumni and friends, community leaders, businesses, and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, a home field for RJR will be a reality. In 2012, R. J. Reynolds High School Home Field Advantage, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, was formed with the mission to build an on-campus athletic facility for R. J. Reynolds High School.

The stadium will be located on school property between Wiley Middle School and RJR gymnasiums on Northwest Boulevard. It will be designed in keeping with the classic architectural style of Wiley Middle School and Bryson Gym. Sports and activities that will be served by this venue include Demon field hockey, football, soccer, lacrosse, marching band, cheerleading, Dancing Boots, and JROTC. Wiley Middle School’s soccer teams will also call this stadium home. There is potential to host graduations, reunions, arts and cultural events, as well as athletic competitions.

Your support is needed to make this a reality. You can give RJR a home field advantage and a great source of pride for its students, faculty, administration, alumni, fans, community, and generations of Demons to come!
